Weddings at Dunbar House

Located just 30 meters from the shores of Sydney Harbour, in the expansive grounds of Robertson Park, Watsons Bay, Dunbar House is a truly spectacular setting for a wedding. A historic mansion built in the 1830s and one of Australia’s oldest standing buildings, Dunbar House has recently changed ownership and is now owned and operated by The Tea Room Group, proprietor of acclaimed Sydney wedding venues The Tea Room QVB, The Tea Room Gunners’ Barracks and Sergeants’ Mess.

With a reputation for transforming historic Sydney buildings into world-class event venues, this new addition to The Tea Room stable is set to offer the finest wedding experience in the Eastern Suburbs. Re-opening in February 2011, a multi-million dollar restoration of Dunbar House is currently underway which will see the building revitalised both inside and out. With the utmost attention to detail, the restoration will pay homage to the 1830s while injecting an air of modern sophistication.

Civil ceremonies can be held on site on the Lower Lawn in Robertson Park under the grand fig tree with the magnificent backdrop of Sydney Harbour. Following the ceremony, guests can enjoy pre-reception drinks and canapés on the stunning outdoor Harbour Terrace overlooking the view.

Offering world-class dining and unparalleled service, a team of dedicated event staff works closely with each client to ensure that every detail of every wedding is meticulously planned. Packages can be tailored to suit individual requirements and budgets, with the Head Chef and Sommelier available to customise food and wine selections.

Making an Entrance
Guests will enter through the front door and into the impressive entrance hallway resplendent with marble tiling and William Morris wallpaper. Italian Foscarini pendant lights will hang from the ceiling, while antique mirrors sourced from all over the world will adorn the walls.

The Bridal Suite
A private oasis to escape from the chaos of the big day, the Dunbar House Bridal Suite is located on the ground floor and offers a private bar and lounge for the bridal party. Whether a place for the bride and bridesmaids to complete their final preparations before the ceremony, or a chance for the entire bridal party to have a celebratory drink between the ceremony and reception. A private waiter will also be on hand to cater to the bridal party’s needs.

The Main Dining Room
Whether it’s a sit down dinner for 110 or a cocktail reception for 150, the Main Dining Room can be configured to suit a number of floor plans. Located on the upper level of the building, the Main Dining Room adjoins an outdoor Harbour Terrace with views of Sydney Harbour. The room will feature hand-crafted crystal chandeliers from the Czech Republic, custom made furniture, Catherine Martin carpets and an antique full-marble fire place.

Upper Level Bar
Adjacent to the main dining room and featuring stunning harbour views, the Upper Level Bar can be used as a place for guests to relax during the reception or can be used as a dance floor or additional seating for larger receptions. The entire upper level is fitted out with a state of the art, high-tech AV system that includes cordless microphones for speeches, the ability to configure music volume in different areas, and a drop down screen and projector.

Breakfast, lunch and evening weddings for 110 seated and 150 standing are available at Dunbar House, Monday to Sunday. Ample street parking is available within a short walking distance of the venue, and with Watson’s Bay Wharf just a stone’s throw from the venue, guests can also arrive and depart in style via charter vessel or ferry.

paperkiss

We love the beautifully designed wedding invitations, greeting cards, stationery, announcements, and everyday correspondence from paperkiss. All letterpress printed using an antique printing press, to give you a wonderfully unique and tactile work of art that people will want to hold onto.

At paperkiss, we believe stationery has a new place in our technological world. To receive something that has been made by hand touches the heart. paperkiss is the stationery line of popomo designs, a boutique graphic design studio, based in the heart of Sydney. paperkiss gives us the opportunity to design for a different clientele, and to design for the vintage printing technique we love.

Letterpress is one of the oldest methods of printing. It’s a printing technique that embeds the artwork into the paper one sheet at a time, creating a textured, tactile feel, with more vibrant colours as the ink soaks into the soft paper.
