Modern Elegance, Cockle Bay

Kylie & JP • 15th October, 2010

Kylie and JP met five years ago on a beautiful afternoon at Sounds on Sunday at the Greenwood Hotel in North Sydney. Due to her study commitments, Kylie’s girlfriends had to work hard to convince her to accompany them on the outing. Of course, Kylie was delighted that she eventually agreed, or she may never have met JP, or experienced that bolt from the blue, known as love at first sight.

The couple were in Rio de Janeiro towards the end of a lengthy trip around Europe and South America when JP announced that he had organised a special day for them both: lunch, shopping and a few cocktails on the beach.

Before dinner they decided to stroll along the beach to watch the sunset at famous Aprador Point. Although poor weather spoiled the sunset, JP insisted they keep walking to the Point, where, to Kylie’s complete astonishment and utter delight, JP went down on one knee. The pair celebrated with champagne and excited (and expensive) phone calls home to share their news.

Kylie and JP’s wedding day was marked by a whirlwind of emotions, from exuberant excitement to tears of joy and Kylie was so nervous on the way to the church that she could hardly speak. However, those nerves magically disappeared the moment she stood next to JP at the altar, looking radiant in her fairytale gown.

The couple agree the whole day was perfect in every way, and that they wouldn’t change a single detail. Fortunately, despite dire predictions of rain in the lead up to their special day, the weather proved to be in their favour for the entire day. The photo shoot on a private boat on Sydney Harbour resulted in some unforgettable images… and not a drop of rain in sight!

Reception table decorations included romantic glass candelabra, while bud vases with gardenias and arrangements of pretty white flowers decorated the bridal table. The couple’s two-tier cake was simple, but elegant, with white icing, a silver ribbon around the base, and a personalised cake topper that added a decidedly cute touch.

After a recent experience with cancer in the family, Kylie and JP opted for a gift to the Cancer Council in place of bomboniere, and had cards printed to let their guests know that a donation had been made on their behalf.

Harlem on Central, Manly's New 1920's Bar

Inspired by the prohibition era speakeasies of the 1920's, Harlem on Central is the latest and greatest addition to the manly bar landscape. From the moment you find the discreet, almost secret entrance you will immerse yourself in a bygone era oozing luxury and style.

Drawing strongly from the Harlem Renaissance movement it is a chic late night lounge where the four corners of hip hop meet the style and sophistication of uptown Manhattan. Every fixture and fitting at Harlem on Central has been meticulously selected to create a warm and undeniably opulent atmosphere.
Conceived by Kieran Bailey and Adam Clarke the team behind Manly's iconic Sugar Lounge and Miss Marley’s, which was recently nominated for Australia's best small bar in the prestigious bartender magazine awards.

Decanter lights from U.K. designer of the year Lee Broom, more gold surfaces than the Sultan of Brunei and custom made cabinetry where members can purchase their own spirit locker and keep their favourite tipple under lock and key.
Harlem’s relaxed yet knowledgeable bar team serve only the finest spirits complimented by cut crystal glassware and triple frozen ice. They have scoured the globe to find rare, precious and hard to find spirits and liqueurs to tempt even the most discerning of drink aficionados. Award-winning bartender and owner Kieran Bailey has compiled an exquisite cocktail list of twisted classics and in-house creations.
The service style is cool and casual where the only things fresher than the ingredients uesd are the soulful beats, which create the backdrop to this unique experience. The seductive sounds of street soul, new jazz and neo funk will be the canvas on which your evening is painted.

The menu is a cheeky twist on modern soul food with one eye on authenticity and the other on the healthy Northern beaches lifestyle. Vibrant, tasty food that is unpretentious and full of life. Inspired by Cajun, Creole and African American classics our Executive chefs Aurelien Lesage will take you on a sumptuous culinary journey to 110th st and beyond.
